Self-Care

Your Comfort Zone Called—It’s Time to Break Up 📞⛓️💥

Self-care isn’t just about bubble baths & quiet moments—it’s also about growth, pushing boundaries, & embracing new experiences. While comfort zones feel safe, they can also keep us stuck, limiting our potential & personal fulfillment.

My comfort zone has been a safety net & a hindrance at the same time. Like anyone else with good sense, I prefer to stay comfortable more than not. But peeping around a corner to decide whether I’m going to continue to hide or face the unknown will have me stuck at times…& missing out on opportunities. This year, I’m choosing to break up with my comfort zone & explore the other side of things.

Your Comfort Zone Can Change Your Life…Or Not 🕵🏽‍♀️

Stepping out of your comfort zone is actually a form of self-care. I wouldn’t usually think it was, but when you really think about it, it definitely is. Think of it like a new adventure into the unknown; one that might just end up positively. That’s how I’m trying to look at new experiences in 2025: like a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

Breaking up with your comfort zone does a variety of things. It:

  • Builds resilience: When you come out of your comfort zone to do something foreign, it builds your toughness. Regardless of how your experience ends, you’ll gain the ability to bounce back easier from the experience.
  • Boosts confidence & reduces fear of failure: Venturing into the unknown can be scary. However, knowing that you took a chance on something can make you feel a lot better about trying again.
  • Opens doors to new opportunities: No comfort zone = no boundaries. And without boundaries, you’re more willing to experience everything that life has to offer.
  • Fosters personal growth: Experiencing something new allows you to learn more about life. The more you know, the more you grow.

How to Breaking Up With Your Comfort Zone ✌🏽

Just like sending a boo who’s been acting a donkey back to the streets, you have to do the same with your comfort zone. It’ll be hard & might even be a drawn out process, but it’s doable. Here’s how:

  • Recognize there’s an issue: This is where you have a “keep it real” convo with yourself. You can’t want to change something if you don’t think it needs to be changed. Just like with your soon-to-be ex, you have to smell something funky & decide to dispose of it. Comfort zones can hold you back, but only if you let them. Turn Tyrese singing “Pulling Me Back” off, sis, & throw on *NSync “Bye Bye Bye!”!
  • Start small: Switch up your routine, take on a challenge that excites (& scares) you, or say yes to something new. Baby steps is the best way to do something so it lessens the discomfort. Most break-ups are a process & so is leaving your comfort zone. We’re not jumping off the deep end of the pool on day 1 of swimming lessons, kids. But we are putting our face in the water!
  • Put more distance between yourself & Mr. Comfort Zone: After you get the hang of things, keep going. The more you pull away from a toxic relationship, the easier it gets to fly the coop. You get more used to being alone as time passes, & you’ll get used to doing what used to be uncomfortable for you. “Nah nah nah nah, hey hey hey, good bye!”

Growth happens in discomfort, & on the other side of fear is a stronger, more empowered you. I’ve been stepping outside of my comfort zone more lately by doing more reels, going live, & being on camera on Zoom calls. Ya girl likes to play the background. But in order for me to elevate, I have to do some things different. It’s uncomfortable, but discomfort lets you know you’re growing.

Whether it’s trying a new hobby, speaking up for yourself, or making a bold life change, every small step forward strengthens your sense of self. We’re bossin’ up in 2025, y’all. Come step outside of your comfort zone with me this year. Better together!

What’s one way you’ll step outside your comfort zone this week?
