Pencil Yourself In…Put YOU on Your Schedule!

Now that outside is reopen, we have significantly less time on our hands than we did over the last 2 years. While the world was locked down, we had so much time for self-care. The hubs & I were considered essential workers, & the only thing that changed was me transitioning to work from home. We still managed to make time for self-care though. We came up with so many things to do: playing pool, binge-watching TV on the porch, home mani/pedis…the list goes on.

One of our new self-care activities became working out (I must have been so bored because I sure used to say I was allergic to exercise). I gave him the side-eye when he went crazy buying home gym equipment, but it became a part of our routine 3-4 days a week. We’d work from the crack of dawn literally & go straight to what I called the Torture Chamber for 90 minutes when he’d get home. I fussed during every session, & he’d ignore me & keep bossing me around, but it was a good time. Not to mention, my body felt & looked better, & it was a major stress reliever!

Another self-care activity I began was a Sunday night beauty routine. I’d light a soothing candle & exfoliate & moisturize my skin, followed by a face mask. My routine made my body smooth, my skin glow, & it was relaxing. It gave me the opportunity to reset each Sunday evening so I can be recharged for the work week. Put that with my nightly yoga, journaling, & meditation routine, & chiiiiiiiiile I was in chill mode!

Once the world opened up again, I was able to get back into one of my favorite places: the salon to see my girl Kristie Lavae & let her work her magic on my hair. Not only is it pampering every other week, but it’s always a good time laughing & catching up on scoop. (Sidebar: check her out on IG @KristieLavaeStylist or https://www.styleseat.com/m/v/kristielavae 😉). Regardless of what I had going on, I was in her chair like clockwork. I even kept my appointment the day after getting my COVID vaccines & felt like trash. Between looking good & decompressing with her, it’s a non-negotiable for my budget to keep my hair appointments.

Self-care is super important, but with the hustle & bustle of life, it’s easy to put it on the bottom of the to-do list. But how is that helping you? Yeah, you may get some tasks done, but at what expense? Your sanity? Your peace of mind? Your attitude? Make time for yourself, even if that means setting an appointment in your phone. I put my self-care in my planner, & checking it off is my reward to myself. Put a little time into yourself. You’re worth it!
